Trip Planning = Estate Planning

Trip Planning = Estate Planning

Everyone deserves a vacation! However, the worst time to think about your estate planning needs is when you are out of town and something has happened. Being out of your element can add even more stress – especially leaving the United States. International law, hospital stays, you name it can be drastically different depending on where you chose to travel for your vacation spot. However, statistically speaking, there is an increased risk of injury and/or death when traveling. Ease this fear and ensure that your estate planning needs are taken care of before you even take off.

Wills and Trusts

Make sure that you have the directions set out if anything were to happen with your will and then the enforcement to execute these directions with a document like a trust. There are so many decisions that must be made if you ever get into an accident or after your passing, ease the burden on yourself and your loved ones by having these documents drafted so that your wishes are followed.

Healthcare Directives

Medical care and procedures can be extremely different abroad. Make sure you create your healthcare directive and bring a copy with you while traveling so that anywhere you go, the hospital follows your wishes.

Guardianship Documents

Whether the kids are with you or not, it is extremely important to lay out the directions for the care of your children if anything happens to you while traveling. This is especially true if you are traveling with your significant other.

Power of Attorney

Another important document is the power of attorney as your agent will be able to help you with any financial needs you may have. This could include sending money while abroad or taking care of any bills back home that you may have.

These are just a few examples, but to have an extensive conversation on what your individual needs may be, please feel free to reach out to any one of our attorneys here at the Boppre Law Firm.
